Kim obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Textiles from Georgia State University, Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Georgia, and Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. Kim has a studio at Tannery Row Artist Colony in Buford and teaches art foundation courses at the University of North Georgia.
