Sheila Hugey began showing artistic abilities at a young age while still living in Michigan. She took oil painting lessons from a private teacher and advanced to taking drawing and painting classes at Oakland Community Collage.
In 1973, she moved to Georgia and was still painting. In the 1980s, she attended Georgia State University to study art. She was advised by her professors that her strong points were two- and three-dimensional design, though she didn't pursue the direction until the 1990s, when her cousin sent her a beaded amulet bag from Ireland. That brought out her desire to create with beads and make jewelry.
Sheila took several weeklong courses at the William Holland Lapidary School, including silversmithing, and also haunted bead stores and found one that offered Wednesday night and Saturday get-togethers to bead beautiful jewelry. There were several bead artists that also did wire wrap jewelry and she was off to her next learning experience, bringing the two- and three-dimensional design to life.
Sheila has taught beading and wire wrapping for many years since then, and loves making a different style of design in each piece she creates.
