Perlizbeth De Leon

About the Artist:
Perlizbeth De Leon is an Atlanta-based artist who has been creating art for as long as she can remember—beginning as a toddler drawing on the walls of her childhood home in Youngsville. While attending Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, she served as president of the National Art Honor Society and worked at Artspace NC. She later studied Art Education at Appalachian State University, where she also worked at the Turchin Center for the Visual Artsteaching art programs. After moving to Atlantain 2019, Perlizbeth stepped away from visual art for a time before returning to painting in 2025. Since then, she has participated in group exhibitions, held a solo show, and completed murals at Cafe Floralia and Manila Mart.
Much of Perlizbeth’s work draws inspiration from mountains as symbols of resilience and perseverance. Having lived near mountains throughout her life—from time spent in the Philippines to studying in the Appalachian Mountains and now living near Kennesaw Mountain—she sees climbing as a powerful metaphor for overcoming life’s challenges. After hiking Springer Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain, and Stone Mountain during a period of personal healing, she created this design to celebrate perseverance and the strength it takes to keep moving forward.
Perlizbeth primarily works in abstract styles, often incorporating figures, florals, and fauna with a slightly fantastical quality. This project marks her third large-scale art installation.
About the mural:
Title: Step Into Your Power
Imagery: A lone woman journeys through the blue-green hues of the Blue Ridge Mountains. What first appears to be a difficult climb is filled with light and possibility, symbolizing the growth and transformation that come with choosing to move forward.
Meaning: This piece reflects a personal journey of resilience and self-discovery after divorce. Inspired by a challenging hike from Amicalola Falls State Park to Springer Mountain along the Appalachian Trail, it represents the courage it takes to take the first step and step fully into one’s own power.
